1st Swiss National Retreat

for

Early-Career Neuroscientists

Given the current exponential increase of coronavirus cases and the uncertainty on the time when the peak of the infection will reach Switzerland, the ySSN has decided to postpone this event until further notice.

Once the situation with the coronavirus is normalized, we will set a new date for the 1st National Retreat, for which we hope you can join!

Stay healthy and help to flatten the curve!

16th March 2020

The retreat will be structured in three sessions. These are:

  1. Psychiatric and Neurological Disorders

  2. From Cell Signaling To Behavior

  3. Circuits and Systems Neuroscience

We believe that informing early-career researchers about multiple career paths open to them after a first academic experience is of great importance. For this reason, we have invited a keynote speakers for each session to openly talk about their different career choices and their work.

Our first keynote speaker of the retreat is Dr Marlen Knobloch. Dr. Knobloch obtained an associate professorship at the University of Lausanne in 2017 after her Postdoc at the lab of Prof. Jessberger, at the University of Zurich. She will be the keynote speaker for the session From Cell Signaling To Behavior and will talk about her career in academia and her work on stem cell metabolism.

Dr. Thomas Mueggler will open the session Psychiatric and Neurological Disorders with the talk "Translational Imaging in Neuroscience Research and Development". Dr. Mueggler is a principal scientist at F. Hoffmann - La Roche and an expert on non-invasive neuroimaging. After experiencing both academia and industry, he will walk us through the differences he encountered in both environments, his research and the fellowship programs that Roche offers to early-career neuroscientists.

During the retreat, you will find a convivial and supportive atmosphere perfect to encourage you to share and discuss your innovative work with your peers from across the country. To ensure that all attendees can present her or his research, we have chosen three presentation formats:

  1. 15 minutes presentation, plus 5 minutes of questions.

  2. Elevator pitch of 5 minutes.

  3. Poster sessions

Please note that we have a limited number of oral presentations, thus speakers will be selected based on their abstract and their motivation to present.

The best of each category

wins a prize!!

Thanks to our sponsor Nikon, juicy prizes will be awarded for each presentation category. The best of each category will receive a Nikon Z50 DX-format 16-50 mm and will get the registration fee and the travel costs reimbursed. The second best, will receive a Nikon Coolpix W300 and will get the registration fee reimbursed.
